The New York Yankees improved their record to 12-15 with a hard-fought 5-3 victory over the New York Mets, who now sit at 14-11. The Yankees' offense out-hit the Mets with eight hits to five, overcoming two errors in a game that showcased both teams' competitive spirit.

The Yankees took control of the game in the sixth inning when they capitalized on a combination of hits and an error by the Mets to score three runs. This pivotal inning was marked by aggressive baserunning, as evidenced by the team's perfect stolen base percentage, stealing three bases throughout the game without being caught. The offensive effort was supported by solid pitching from both starters and relievers, who together maintained a WHIP of 1.0 across nine innings.

Notably, the Yankees' hitters showed discipline at the plate drawing five walks and posting an on-base percentage (OBP) of .389. Their slugging percentage stood at .300 with one extra-base hit contributing to their total base count of nine. In high-pressure situations with runners in scoring position (RISP), they managed four hits out of thirteen at-bats and delivered four RBIs when there were two outs.

Defensively, despite committing two errors which could have been costly, they turned two double plays which helped limit potential rallies by the Mets. The fielding team also recorded eleven assists throughout nine innings.

The bullpen played a crucial role for the Yankees as well; relievers pitched five innings where they only allowed one earned run and held opposing batters to an average (BA) of .188 while maintaining an ERA of 1.8 for this period.

On offense for the Mets, their efforts were highlighted during their second inning where they scored two runs off two hits but struggled thereafter against Yankee pitching that seemed determined not to let up any more ground.

Looking ahead after this exciting matchup between cross-town rivals, fans can catch their next chance to support The Bronx Bombers as they face off against Detroit Tigers at Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland on March 23rd at 1:05 PM Eastern Time Zone. This upcoming preseason game will be available for viewing on ESPN+.
