The Yankees set the tone early in the game by scoring one run in the first inning followed by a powerful third inning where they added four more runs to their tally. This surge was highlighted by an impressive display of hitting that resulted in three hits during that inning alone. The team's batting average for this game stood at .273, with notable contributions across the board. A significant factor in their victory was their performance with runners in scoring position, managing three hits out of nine attempts which contributed directly to four runs batted in during critical moments.

On the pitching side, Clarke Schmidt claimed his third win of the season for the Yankees, showcasing strong pitching across nine innings with an earned run average (ERA) of 3.0 for this game. The bullpen also played its part effectively; Luke Weaver and Caleb Ferguson held onto their leads with Weaver adding another hold to his record and Ferguson securing his sixth hold of the season.

The Detroit Tigers managed to keep pace initially, opening up with one run in the first inning and adding two more runs in the fourth thanks to timely hitting that included a triple contributing significantly to their scoreline. However, despite these efforts and ending up with seven hits overall, they couldn't overcome New York's lead.

Defensively both teams performed without errors throughout all nine innings demonstrating solid fielding capabilities. The Yankees' defense was particularly effective turning two double plays which helped maintain their lead against any potential rallies from Detroit.
