In the first inning, the Cubs took an early lead as they managed to score one run on one hit. The Yankees' starting pitcher Max Fried struggled initially but managed to limit further damage by getting out of a jam with runners on base. Despite this early setback, Fried's pitching showed promise as he struck out two batters in his three innings pitched.

Third Inning

The third inning proved pivotal for the Cubbies as they extended their lead significantly. With four hits and three runs scored during this frame, Chicago capitalized on some defensive lapses by New York. Anthony Volpe's fielding was solid throughout most of the game; however, a throwing error contributed to an unearned run that widened Chicago's advantage.

Meanwhile, Aaron Judge continued his impressive form from previous games by maintaining a high batting average and providing stability in right field defense for New York despite limited offensive opportunities earlier in this matchup.
