The Hornets have been struggling with consistency this season. In their recent game against the Denver Nuggets, despite a strong start where they led by as much as 10 points and scored heavily in the first half with 60 points, they faltered in the third quarter scoring only 9 points which ultimately led to a loss of 95-102. Their defensive efforts were notable with 11 blocks but turnovers remained an issue with a total of 18 for that game.

In their away game against Indiana Pacers, Charlotte's defense was porous allowing an overwhelming 144 points while managing to score only 113 themselves. They showed strength inside by scoring 60 points in paint but were outmatched overall as Pacers dominated most of the game leading by up to 33 points.

Another away game saw them facing Toronto Raptors where they managed to keep it closer but still fell short at 99-114. The Hornets had better control over turnovers this time and showcased efficiency from free throws line making all attempts but struggled from beyond the arc hitting only a quarter of their three-point shots.

The trends suggest that while Charlotte has shown sparks of offensive firepower particularly inside paint and fast break situations, defensive lapses and inconsistency across quarters have been detrimental. As they face off against Lakers who bring their own set of challenges, it will be crucial for Hornets to maintain intensity throughout all four quarters and tighten up defensively if they hope for victory.
