Dallas Mavericks fade after first-quarter surge as the Toronto Raptors run the floor

The Dallas Mavericks fell to 21-43 after a 122-92 loss to the Toronto Raptors, who moved to 36-27 at Scotiabank Arena.

First quarter


The Dallas Mavericks opened with 29 points in the first quarter while the Toronto Raptors posted 36 points.


The Mavs briefly held a 3-point biggest lead before the Raptors answered with a 10-point most-unanswered run.


Dallas grabbed 57 total rebounds and 13 offensive rebounds, and the Raptors finished with 54 total rebounds and 8 offensive rebounds.


Second quarter


The Mavs scored 15 points in the second quarter as the Raptors added 21 points to build separation.


Toronto turned 19 Dallas turnovers into 24 points off turnovers, while Dallas produced 10 points off Toronto’s 8 turnovers.


The Raptors’ passing pace showed up in 39 assists, while the Mavs finished with 22 assists.


Third quarter


The Mavs scored 22 points in the third quarter and leaned on 52 points in the paint, while the Raptors scored 31 points and piled up 64 points in the paint.


Daniel Gafford supplied 21 points and 11 rebounds for Big D, and Cooper Flagg added 17 points with 6 assists.


Toronto’s transition push produced 21 fast-break points, compared with 4 fast-break points for Dallas.


Fourth quarter


The Mavs put up 26 points in the fourth quarter as the Raptors closed with 34 points and stretched the margin to a 32-point biggest lead.


Dallas shot 40 percent from the field and 17 percent from 3-point range, while Toronto shot 50 percent overall and 28 percent from beyond the arc.
