In an intense battle at Little Caesars Arena, the Rockets showcased their resilience and ability to perform under pressure. The game saw eight ties and five lead changes, indicating how evenly matched the two teams were throughout the contest. Despite trailing behind in terms of overall efficiency (122 for Houston compared to Detroit's 129), the Rockets managed to secure a win thanks to crucial plays down the stretch.

Houston's offense was spearheaded by their impressive shooting from inside the arc where they shot an effective 55 percent on two-point attempts. Their success in scoring from close range was evident as they racked up a significant 58 points in paint out of their total score. This interior dominance played a key role in their offensive strategy.

Moreover, clutch free throw shooting proved vital for Houston as they capitalized on these opportunities with an outstanding accuracy rate of 88 percent from the line. The team also demonstrated strong ball security with only nine turnovers during the game and maintained control over proceedings by leading for nearly eight minutes.

Defensively, while both teams had similar ratings (Houston's defensive rating stood at approximately 111 while Detroit's was slightly higher), it was Houston’s ability to convert points off turnovers that made a difference; they scored an impactful 20 points following Pistons' mistakes.

The bench contribution for Houston wasn't overwhelming but provided necessary support by adding another layer of depth with 14 bench points. In contrast, Detroit’s bench outscored them significantly contributing a hefty sum of 37 points which kept them competitive throughout.

Rebounding also played its part; although being outrebounded by Detroit who grabbed an impressive total of 55 rebounds against Houston’s solid effort resulting in grabbing hold of 47 rebounds themselves – it did not deter them from securing victory.

As fans look ahead after this gripping encounter between these two franchises, attention turns towards future matchups where fans can expect more exciting basketball action.

The next challenge awaiting the Rockets will be against Boston Celtics at TD Garden scheduled for January 13th at around noon local time (6:00 PM Eastern Time).
