Houston Rockets watch the Lakers close like a vice in the fourth quarter at Toyota Center

The Houston Rockets, at 41-27, took a 124-116 setback to the Los Angeles Lakers, at 44-25, at Toyota Center as the Houston Rockets full-time result settled on 124-116.

First quarter


The Houston Rockets opened with 26 points in the first quarter while the Los Angeles Lakers posted 35.


The Rockets created 8 lead changes over the night, and the early swing belonged to the Lakers on that opening run.


Second quarter


The Rockets added 29 points in the second quarter, and the Lakers answered with 32.


Houston Rockets post-match stats showed the Rockets at 50 percent shooting, while the Lakers finished at 60 percent from the field.


The Rockets collected 10 steals in the game, and the Lakers finished with 30 assists.


Third quarter


The Rockets produced their biggest push with 37 points in the third quarter, and the Lakers scored 22 in that frame.


Houston generated 26 points off turnovers, while the Lakers countered with 23 points off turnovers.


The Rockets won second-chance work with 12 offensive rebounds and 14 second-chance points, while the Lakers logged 5 offensive rebounds and 6 second-chance points.


Fourth quarter


The Rockets scored 24 points in the fourth quarter, and the Lakers closed with 35 to finish the night.


The Lakers hit 47 percent from 3-point range, while the Rockets finished at 34 percent from deep, and that gap shaped what went wrong for Houston Rockets late.


Los Angeles also got 21 fast-break points on 80 percent fast-break finishing, while Houston recorded 15 fast-break points on 60 percent conversion.
