Houston Rockets Overtime Free Throws and Rim Defense Set Swing Against the Minnesota Timberwolves

The Houston Rockets left the the Minnesota Timberwolves with a 43-29 record behind a 110-108 overtime result at Target Center, while the the Timberwolves moved to 45-28 in the same game.

First quarter


The the Houston Rockets opened with 19 points in the first quarter while the Wolves scored 23 points to take the early edge.


The Rockets posted 10 blocks in the game and used that rim protection to contest a Minnesota attack that finished with 62 points in the paint.


Second quarter


The Rockets scored 24 points in the second quarter and went into halftime down 44-43 after the Pack added 21 points.


Houston’s ball movement showed up in 26 assists, while Minnesota produced 27 assists as both offenses created shots off the pass.


Third quarter


The Rockets put up 25 points in the third quarter while the Twolves answered with 26 points, keeping the margin tight into the fourth.


Houston’s work on the glass produced 62 total rebounds, and Minnesota finished with 61 rebounds to keep second chances in play for both teams.


Fourth quarter


The Rockets scored 27 points in the fourth quarter and the Wolves scored 25 points, pushing the game into overtime with the teams tied 94-94 after regulation.


Houston generated 19 points off turnovers while Minnesota produced 26 points off turnovers, a gap driven by the Rockets’ 21 total turnovers against the Wolves’ 17.


Overtime


The Rockets scored 13 points in overtime, and Houston’s 92 percent free-throw shooting on 25 attempts kept pressure on a Minnesota group that went 7-for-10 at 70 percent.


Minnesota scored 15 points in the extra session and finished the night with 13 made 3-pointers on 37 attempts for 35 percent, while the Rockets hit 9 3-pointers on 29 attempts for 31 percent.

The Rockets got a 30-point game from Alperen Sengun, and he added 4 blocks as part of Houston’s 10-block night.


Amen Thompson recorded 10 assists and 9 rebounds, giving H-Town another creator as the game went to overtime.


Kevin Durant scored 30 points and added 8 assists, and the Rockets’ offense still finished at 41 percent on 93 field-goal attempts against Minnesota’s 42 percent on 108 attempts.
