The New York Knicks came out with energy but found themselves trailing after a tough first quarter where they scored 26 points to the Mavericks' dominant 44. The visitors managed to narrow the gap slightly in the second quarter by adding another 29 points to their tally. As halftime approached, it was evident that the Knicks had work to do.

In an attempt to shift momentum after halftime, New York added 31 points in the third quarter but still lagged behind Dallas who maintained their lead with consistent scoring. The fourth quarter saw an impressive push from New York as they racked up a game-high of 38 points for themselves in this period; however, it wasn't enough to close down on Dallas's early lead.

Key players for New York made significant contributions throughout this challenging matchup. The team's field goal percentage stood at a respectable 49 percent with an effective field goal percentage of 57 percent indicating their ability not only to make shots but also capitalize on three-pointers and free throws which they made at rates of 33 percent and 79 percent respectively. They were particularly effective inside painting where they scored more than half their points (56) and shot an impressive paint field goal percentage of 74 percent.

Despite these efforts, turnovers proved costly for New York as they gave up possession on sixteen occasions leading directly to thirteen points for Dallas. On top of that, while both teams had seven steals each during gameplay and two blocks apiece defensively speaking; it was clear that maintaining control over ball possession was crucial – something reflected in Dallas's lower turnover count (10) and higher efficiency game score (105.7).
