Knicks' Early Lead Fades as Cavaliers Rally in Fourth Quarter

First Half Dominance


The Knicks started strong, establishing a commanding presence early on with a remarkable first quarter performance that saw them score 39 points compared to Cleveland's 24. Jalen Brunson led this charge with his impressive scoring ability, contributing significantly to New York's early lead. His shooting accuracy was evident as he made over half of his field goal attempts and excelled from beyond the arc.


Mikal Bridges also played a crucial role during this period, showcasing his versatility by adding points and assists while maintaining defensive pressure on Cleveland's backcourt players. The Knicks' defense was particularly effective in creating turnovers, amassing a total of 11 steals throughout the game.

However, despite their initial dominance and building up a lead as large as 23 points during the first half, New York struggled to maintain their momentum into halftime. The second quarter saw them add only 23 points compared to Cleveland’s steady increase of offensive output.


Cavaliers’ Comeback


As play resumed after halftime, it became clear that adjustments were made by Cleveland’s coaching staff which began paying dividends almost immediately. The third quarter witnessed an uptick in intensity from both sides; however it was ultimately dominated by Donovan Mitchell who spearheaded an offensive resurgence for his team with efficient shooting and timely assists.
