Can the Wizards Conjure a Win at Smoothie King Center?

As the Washington Wizards prepare to face off against the New Orleans Pelicans at the Smoothie King Center, fans are left pondering whether their team can pull off a victory. The Wizards' recent performances have been a mixed bag of high-scoring affairs and defensive struggles, leaving much to be desired on the court.

On December 23, in their game against the Golden State Warriors, despite scoring an impressive 118 points with a bench contribution of 50 points and maintaining a lead for nearly 11 minutes, they fell short defensively. The Wizards allowed 129 points against them with their defensive rating soaring to an alarming 124.3. Their three-point shooting was modest at 31 percent but showed promise in fast break scenarios converting 64 percent of those opportunities into points.

The following night on December 22 against the Portland Trail Blazers was another close encounter where they edged out with just one point difference in their favor. This time around, they led for an overwhelming majority of the game - over 47 minutes - and showcased better control over turnovers and fouls compared to previous outings. Their two-point field goal percentage stood strong at 56 percent which contributed significantly to their win.

However, on December 19 versus Sacramento Kings, it was clear that defense remained an Achilles heel for WAS as they conceded a staggering 143 points while posting only slightly better offensive numbers themselves with a total score of 131. Despite shooting efficiently from both inside (55 percent from two-point range) and outside (47 percent from three), it wasn't enough to secure victory due largely to their inability to contain Sacramento's offense.

Looking ahead at their upcoming match-up with NOP, it's evident that if WAS wishes to leave New Orleans victorious, they must tighten up defensively without sacrificing offensive production – particularly from key bench players who have proven capable scorers in clutch moments.

The Pelicans will certainly not make things easy; boasting home-court advantage and likely looking forward to capitalizing on any defensive lapses by WAS just as past opponents have done successfully.

Wizards fans should keep an eye out for improvements in ball handling – minimizing turnovers is crucial – as well as consistency in scoring across all quarters rather than relying heavily on late-game surges which may not always turn games around.
