Cougars Clawed at Amon G. Carter Stadium: BYU Falls to TCU in Football Showdown
The Brigham Young University Cougars faced a challenging game against the Horned Frogs, ending with a record of 4-2 and an 11-44 scoreline. The Horned Frogs improved their season to 4-3.
At Amon G. Carter Stadium, the home team took control early on, scoring 14 points in the first quarter while holding the Cougars scoreless. The second quarter saw a slight resurgence from BYU as they managed to put up eight points against TCU's 17, but it was not enough to shift the momentum of the game.
BYU's offensive efforts were led by their rushing attack which accounted for one touchdown and contributed to half of their total first downs. Their ground game amassed 91 yards over 32 attempts with an average gain per rush sitting just under three yards. The longest rush of the day was a modest 19-yard effort.
In terms of passing, BYU completed only about half of its attempts for a total of 152 yards through the air; however, they were unable to find the end zone via pass and suffered one interception that was returned by TCU for another touchdown. Despite these challenges, BYU did manage one red zone success out of three attempts.
Special teams had some bright spots with field goal kicking being perfect on the day – converting their only attempt from beyond forty yards – but kick returns failed to provide any spark with an average return distance under twenty-three yards despite one return breaking free for forty yards.
Defensively, BYU intercepted two passes returning them for seventeen yards combined but could not capitalize on these turnovers due to offensive struggles and no sacks recorded throughout the game.
Penalties were relatively low with five infractions costing them fifty penalty yards which did not significantly impact their overall performance given other areas where improvement is needed.
Looking ahead after this tough outing at Fort Worth, fans can mark their calendars as Brigham Young University will host Texas Tech Red Raiders at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo on October 21st at approximately 6 PM local time (MDT). This upcoming contest will be broadcast live on Fox Sports 1 where fans can tune in to watch how BYU bounces back from this defeat.
