Clash of the Rams and Leathernecks at Sonny Lubick Field: A Football Encounter

As the Colorado State Rams prepare to host the Western Illinois Leathernecks at Sonny Lubick Field at Canvas Stadium, fans are eager for a glimpse into what could unfold on September 7. The Rams' performance in their previous game against the Buffaloes on August 31 was a mix of explosive offense and concerning turnovers. Despite racking up an impressive 488 total yards with an average gain of six yards per play, turnovers were a thorn in their side, with four lost possessions that likely cost them the game.

The CSU offense showed they could move the ball effectively through both rushing and passing plays. They averaged over four yards per carry on rush plays and demonstrated big-play ability in their passing game with three touchdowns through the air. However, it's crucial for CSU to address their turnover issues before facing WIL. The Leathernecks will undoubtedly be studying film from that game and looking to exploit any weaknesses.

On defense, CSU must tighten up as well. While they didn't allow any points off turnovers against Utah State Aggies on November 17, 2018, they did give up nearly six yards per play on average – a number that needs improvement if they want to contain WIL's offensive threats.

Special teams also need attention; while kickoffs were strong with five touchbacks out of six attempts against COL, punt returns yielded minimal yardage which could be an area for potential growth.

Looking ahead to WIL, it's clear that CSU has potent weapons on offense capable of scoring from anywhere on the field. If they can clean up mistakes and hold onto the ball better than in recent outings, there is every reason to believe that home-field advantage will play into their hands come game day.

Fans should mark their calendars for this exciting matchup scheduled for September 7 at Sonny Lubick Field at Canvas Stadium in Fort Collins. Kickoff is set for 2:00 PM local time (4:00 PM ET), and those unable to attend can catch all the action live on SportsNet RM via satellite channel 683.
