Duke Blue Devils Overcome Virginia Tech Hokies in a Defensive Masterclass

In a game that had fans on the edge of their seats, the Duke Blue Devils emerged victorious over the Virginia Tech Hokies with a final score of 31-28. This win improved the Blue Devils' record to 8-3, while the Hokies fell to 5-6. The match, held at Brooks Field at Wallace Wade Stadium, was a showcase of tactical gameplay and defensive prowess.

Defensive Dominance


The Duke defense was nothing short of spectacular, racking up an impressive total of eight sacks and forcing two fumbles throughout the game. Chandler Rivers stood out with his all-around performance that included one sack, four assisted tackles, one forced fumble which he also recovered. Kendy Charles also made significant contributions with 1.5 sacks and ten assisted tackles, proving instrumental in stifling Virginia Tech's offense.


On special teams, Kade Reynoldson punted six times for 208 yards, managing to place two punts inside the 20-yard line which played a crucial role in field positioning. The defensive unit's relentless pressure and strategic play were key factors in this hard-fought win.


Offensive Highlights


On offense, quarterback Maalik Murphy threw for 332 yards and three touchdowns but was intercepted three times. Despite these turnovers, Murphy's connection with wide receiver Eli Pancol was undeniable; Pancol caught five passes for an astonishing 188 yards and all three receiving touchdowns. His longest reception went for an impressive 86 yards showcasing his explosive playmaking ability.


Star Thomas led the rushing attack with 63 yards on nineteen carries finding the end zone once which complemented Duke’s aerial assault effectively by keeping Virginia Tech’s defense guessing.

The Duke Blue Devils are now set to face off against Wake Forest Demon Deacons at Allegacy Federal Credit Union Stadium in Winston-Salem on November 30th at noon EDT.
