Can Duke Blue Devils' Defense Overpower Wake Forest Demon Deacons Again?

In a closely contested game, the Duke Blue Devils emerged victorious over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons with a final score of 23-17. The victory improved the Blue Devils' season record to 9-3, while the Demon Deacons fell to 4-8. The match, held at Allegacy Federal Credit Union Stadium in Winston-Salem, saw an attendance of 24,776 fans who witnessed a game filled with strategic plays and pivotal moments.

Game Highlights


The Duke defense was relentless throughout the game, recording five sacks and seven tackles for loss against Wake Forest. This defensive pressure contributed significantly to limiting the Demon Deacons' scoring opportunities. Cameron Bergeron stood out on defense with one sack and a forced fumble, showcasing his ability to disrupt Wake Forest's offensive rhythm.


On offense, quarterback Maalik Murphy completed 26 of his 34 attempts for 235 yards and threw one touchdown pass. His performance was critical in maintaining possession and moving the chains for Duke. Star running back Star Thomas also had an impressive day on the ground, rushing for 66 yards on 14 carries and scoring one touchdown.


Special teams played their part as well; Todd Pelino successfully converted a field goal from 45 yards out alongside two extra points contributing to the team's total score.


Key Players and Plays


Jordan Moore's receiving efforts were noteworthy as he led with five receptions totaling 98 yards including a long touchdown catch that electrified fans. His ability to create separation from defenders provided Murphy with a reliable target downfield.


The Blue Devils' punting unit also deserves recognition; Kade Reynoldson punted six times averaging nearly forty yards per punt which helped in pinning back Wake Forest deep into their own territory multiple times during the match.


Despite facing challenges such as turnovers including an interception thrown by Murphy and losing one fumble via Jaquez Moore’s carry attempt which could have shifted momentum towards Wake Forest’s favor; Duke managed to maintain composure leading them towards securing another win this season.
