East Carolina Pirates Narrowly Defeated by Tulsa Golden Hurricane at Bagwell Field
The East Carolina Pirates faced a tough game against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane, ending with a record of 2-10 and the visitors at 4-8. The final score was a close 29-27 in favor of the Golden Hurricane.
At Bagwell Field at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium, the home crowd witnessed an intense battle where the Pirates showcased their offensive skills. The team accumulated a total of 409 yards, with an impressive average gain of 7.4 yards per play from their 55 plays. The rushing department was particularly effective, churning out 225 yards on the ground over 37 attempts, which included a notable longest rush that equaled a touchdown from exactly half the field away.
The passing game for East Carolina also contributed significantly to their yardage with 184 passing yards. Their quarterback managed to complete two touchdown passes and maintained an admirable completion percentage of about 67 percent despite being sacked three times. However, interceptions were an issue as two passes were picked off by Tulsa's defense.
Special teams played their part too; East Carolina's kicker successfully made both field goal attempts with one being as long as 29 yards and all extra point kicks sailing through without issue.
On defense, while no sacks were recorded by East Carolina's side, they did manage to intercept one pass and defended another effectively. They also stopped four plays for losses totaling eight yards lost for Tulsa.
Penalties could have been problematic for either team but remained relatively low with only six penalties costing East Carolina a total of sixty-five penalty yards throughout the game.
As fans cheered on into the evening hours at Greenville's stadium which hosted nearly thirty thousand attendees that day, it was clear that every player on both sides gave it their all until the last whistle blew marking endgame time around seven o'clock PM local time.
Looking ahead after this hard-fought contest under lights at Bagwell Field at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium, fans can tune in next week when East Carolina will seek to regroup and face their next opponent in hopes of improving upon this season’s challenges.
