Houston Cougars Dominate at John O'Quinn Field in American Football Showdown Against Grambling State Tigers

The game held at John O'Quinn Field at TDECU Stadium saw the Houston Cougars take complete control from start to finish. The offense was particularly effective, amassing a total of 422 yards. The passing game contributed significantly to this tally with quarterback Clayton Tune throwing for 258 yards and two touchdowns on an efficient completion rate of over sixty percent. Notably, one touchdown pass covered sixteen yards into the end zone.


On the ground, the rushing attack added another dimension to their offensive arsenal. They ran for 164 yards across forty-five attempts and crossed into the end zone three times with one rush covering an impressive thirty-four yards for a touchdown.

Special teams also played their part; notably, there was a punt return that went for sixty yards and resulted in another touchdown for Houston. In terms of kicking accuracy, half of field goal attempts were successful including one from twenty-two yards out.


Defensively, Houston's prowess was evident as they sacked Grambling State's quarterback three times and recorded five tackles for loss totaling twenty-one sack-yards lost by Grambling State's offense. Furthermore, they forced one fumble which they recovered themselves ensuring that turnovers were kept to just one throughout the game.

Red zone efficiency stood out as well with Houston converting all five opportunities into scores while maintaining perfect success rates on both third-down conversions (forty-three percent) and fourth-down conversions (one hundred percent). This level of execution ensured that whenever they approached scoring territory they capitalized effectively.
