At Memorial Stadium, the Illinois Fighting Illini showcased their resilience against the Wisconsin Badgers. The home team's offense managed to accumulate a total of 276 yards, with 141 coming from rushing and 174 from passing. The quarterback's arm was instrumental in securing two touchdowns through the air, including an impressive longest completion of 48 yards which also resulted in the longest touchdown. On the ground, another touchdown was added to their tally with a notable rush covering 43 yards for their longest rushing touchdown.

The defense also played a critical role for Illinois by forcing two fumbles and recovering both while registering two sacks and adding twelve sack yards to their defensive efforts. Their ability to disrupt plays was evident as they held back Wisconsin's advances time and again.

Special teams contributed as well; although there were no blocked punts or punt return touchdowns, they maintained solid field position throughout the game. A successful field goal from within thirty-nine yards provided crucial points that ultimately made the difference on the scoreboard.

Penalties were minimal for both sides; however, it is worth noting that Illinois only incurred four penalties totaling fifteen yards – discipline that may have helped them maintain their slight edge over Wisconsin.
