On defense, Illinois made their presence felt by accumulating three sacks and applying consistent pressure on opposing quarterbacks with three quarterback hits. This defensive pressure contributed to one interception and one fumble recovery for Illinois, showcasing their ability to create turnovers and capitalize on them.

Penalties could have been problematic for both teams but remained under control; however, it is worth noting that Illinois incurred seven penalties totaling eighty-five yards which could be areas for improvement moving forward.
