In a game that showcased offensive versatility, the Illinois Fighting Illini secured a hard-fought victory over the Michigan State Spartans at Spartan Stadium. The away team's passing game was particularly effective, with their quarterback throwing for 369 yards and three touchdowns, including an impressive longest completion of 83 yards which also resulted in their longest touchdown. The aerial assault was complemented by a ground game that added another touchdown and contributed to the team's total of five touchdowns.


The receiving corps played a significant role in this offensive display, racking up all of the team's passing yards on 22 receptions and scoring all three receiving touchdowns. Their efforts were crucial in converting first downs through the air as they achieved this feat on thirteen occasions.

Special teams also had their moments during this contest. A field goal from 40 yards out was successfully made, contributing to the overall scoreline. Kickoff returns were solid with an average return distance of nearly 25 yards over four attempts.


Defensively, Illinois showed prowess by intercepting three passes from their opponents and returning one for a touchdown after an impressive run back of 76 yards. Despite not registering any sacks or safeties, they managed to recover one fumble during play.

Penalties could have been problematic as nine were called against them for a total of ninety-four penalty yards; however, it did not deter them from achieving victory.
