Matthew Bailey stood out on defense forcing one fumble which highlighted Illinois' defensive efforts alongside Gabe Jacas who recovered a fumble adding crucial turnovers that helped tilt the game balance in favor of Illinois.

Special teams played an essential role in this tightly contested matchup. Kicker David Olano successfully converted all his field goal attempts including his longest from twenty-nine yards out contributing crucial points for Illinois Fighting Illini.


Punter Hugh Robertson also had notable contributions ensuring Rutgers started from unfavorable positions multiple times during the game thanks to his punting efforts that included landing one inside the twenty-yard line.
