Clash at Kelly/Shorts Stadium: Kansas Jayhawks vs Central Michigan Chippewas in College Football Showdown

As the Kansas Jayhawks prepare to face off against the Central Michigan Chippewas at Kelly/Shorts Stadium, fans are eager to see if KU can turn their fortunes around after a rocky start to the season. The Jayhawks' previous game on September 1st saw them narrowly defeated by Nicholls State with a score of 23-26. Despite this loss, there were promising elements within KU's performance that could be pivotal in their upcoming game.

The Jayhawks held possession for over 28 minutes and averaged nearly 3 yards per play. However, they'll need to tighten up their rushing game which only averaged less than 2 yards per attempt. The passing game showed more promise with an average of over 9 yards per reception and two touchdowns contributing to their total yardage of 215. Special teams also had bright spots, with field goal attempts being successful including a long shot from 54 yards out.

Defensively, KU managed one safety but will need to ramp up pressure as they only recorded one sack against Nicholls State. Penalties were another area of concern; seven penalties for a loss of 54 yards is something that needs addressing before facing CMC.

On the other side, Central Michigan Chippewas will provide stiff competition based on past performances. They have shown themselves capable both offensively and defensively in previous seasons and will look to capitalize on any weaknesses displayed by the Jayhawks.

For KU fans looking ahead, it's clear that improvements are needed across both offense and defense if they hope for victory at Mount Pleasant. The team must leverage its receiving corps effectively while finding ways to bolster its rushing attack if it aims to control the clock and keep CMC's offense off the field.

The upcoming battle scheduled for September 8th at Kelly/Shorts Stadium promises an exciting match-up under the lights at 7:00 PM local time (EST). Fans unable or unwilling to make the trip can catch all the action live on ESPN+. With hard work during practice this week and strategic adjustments from coaching staff, Kansas has an opportunity not just for redemption but also for setting a positive tone early in their season.
