The game, held at David Booth Memorial Stadium in Lawrence, Kansas, saw the home team take control early on. The Jayhawks' offense was particularly effective through the air, with their quarterback throwing for 364 yards and four touchdowns. Notably, one of these touchdown passes was a remarkable 77-yard completion—the longest of the game. The passing efficiency was evident as they completed over 60 percent of their attempts and achieved an impressive passer rating of approximately 170.

On the ground, however, it was a tougher battle for Kansas as they amassed just 73 rushing yards throughout the game. Despite this struggle to gain yardage on foot, they still managed to find the end zone once via a run play.

Special teams also contributed positively to Kansas' performance; all field goal attempts were successful including one from within the range of 29 yards. Additionally, kickoffs frequently pinned back Southeast Missouri State with four resulting in touchbacks.

Defensively, Kansas held firm by limiting Southeast Missouri State's scoring opportunities and securing one fumble recovery which helped shift momentum further in favor of the Jayhawks. Penalties were kept relatively low with only five infractions costing them a total of under fifty penalty yards.

Fans witnessed disciplined football from both sides regarding turnovers and penalties; neither team exceeded three turnovers or five penalties during gameplay.

Looking ahead after this solid start to their season, fans can anticipate watching more action from their beloved Jayhawks when they face off against Central Michigan Chippewas next week. This upcoming contest is scheduled for September 9th at David Booth Memorial Stadium (Lawrence), kicking off at approximately 8:00 PM local time (Lawrence).
