First Quarter

The opening quarter set the tone for a competitive matchup as both teams traded touchdowns to end the period tied at 7-7. The Lobos' quarterback Jack Layne showcased his precision early on, completing passes that moved the chains effectively.

Second Quarter

In the second quarter, the Aggies briefly took control by adding another touchdown and a field goal to their tally. However, Layne responded with two touchdown passes that kept the Pack within striking distance as they entered halftime trailing by just three points.

Third Quarter

After regrouping during halftime, New Mexico's defense stepped up significantly in the third quarter. Keyshawn James-Newby led a relentless pass rush that resulted in multiple sacks and disrupted NMSU's offensive rhythm. This defensive pressure allowed Layne and his offense to capitalize on short fields and score ten unanswered points.

Fourth Quarter

The final quarter was where UNM truly pulled away. Jack Layne continued his aerial assault with two more touchdown passes—one of which was caught by Keagan Johnson for an electrifying 41-yard score. Meanwhile, Xavier Slayton contributed defensively with a crucial interception that halted any potential comeback from NMSU.

Overall, Jack Layne finished with four passing touchdowns and over 300 yards through the air while maintaining an impressive completion rate of nearly 77 percent. On defense, Gabriel Lopez added pressure alongside James-Newby by recording one-and-a-half sacks himself.

This post-game report New Mexico Lobos highlights how their balanced attack overwhelmed New Mexico State despite some early resistance from their rivals across state lines.

Looking ahead for fans eager to catch more action: The next game is scheduled against San Jose State Spartans on October 3rd at CEFCU Stadium in San Jose starting at 10:00 PM EDT; it will be broadcast live via Fox Sports One (channel satellite:219).
