Notre Dame Fighting Irish Clinch Victory at Lane Stadium in Football Showdown

In a closely contested game, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish emerged victorious with a 32-29 score over the Virginia Tech Hokies. The Fighting Irish now stand at an impressive 11-2 record, while the Hokies fall to 6-7.

The game at Lane Stadium was marked by a strong offensive showing from the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The team amassed a total of 401 yards, with both their passing and rushing attacks contributing significantly to their yardage. The passing game accounted for 221 yards, including two touchdowns and ten first downs. Despite two interceptions thrown by the quarterback, they maintained an average of nearly eight yards per pass attempt and achieved a passer rating of around 139.


On the ground, the Fighting Irish were equally effective, rushing for 180 yards across 43 attempts which resulted in an average of over four yards per carry. Their efforts led to two rushing touchdowns and nine first downs. Notably, their longest rush was just eleven yards, indicating consistent gains rather than reliance on breakout plays.

Special teams also played a pivotal role in securing victory for Notre Dame. A field goal from forty-eight yards out contributed three points to their total score while maintaining a perfect kicking record during this game.


Defensively, Notre Dame held firm against Virginia Tech's advances. They recorded one sack with ten sack-yards lost and five tackles for loss totaling twenty lost yardage for Virginia Tech's offense. Additionally, they managed one interception and defended another pass effectively disrupting Virginia Tech's aerial attack.

The Hokies put up a valiant effort throughout four quarters but ultimately fell short despite scoring more points in both the first (7) and third (9) quarters compared to Notre Dame’s zero in the first quarter and seven in third quarter respectively. Their offense accumulated less total yardage than Notre Dame with penalties slightly hampering their progress; they incurred seven penalties resulting in seventy penalty-yards against them.


Looking ahead after this hard-fought victory on turf under open skies before sixty-five thousand six hundred thirty-two spectators at Lane Stadium; fans can anticipate another exciting encounter as the Notre Dame Fighting Irish will host USC Trojans at Notre Dame Stadium on October 23rd at approximately 7:30 PM Eastern Time (ET).
