Special teams had their moments too; although there were no blocked punts or punt returns for touchdowns, Notre Dame managed to pin one punt inside the twenty-yard line and averaged fifty-one net yards on punts overall.


Defensively, Notre Dame applied pressure consistently throughout the game with three sacks totaling twenty lost yardage for North Carolina and four tackles for loss accumulating twenty-four negative yardage against them. They also forced two fumbles during play – recovering one themselves – which contributed to their dominance on defense.

Penalties were relatively low with only five infractions costing them forty-six penalty-yards throughout the entire game.
