The home crowd of 42,206 witnessed an intense battle where both teams put up an impressive fight. The first quarter ended in a deadlock with both teams scoring 14 points each. However, the second quarter saw the Sooners pull ahead significantly by adding another 23 points to their tally without any response from Tulane. After halftime, momentum shifted slightly as Tulane managed to outscore Oklahoma by eight points to three in the third quarter and continued their effort into the fourth quarter with an additional 13 points. Despite this late surge from Tulane, it was not enough to overcome Oklahoma's lead.

The offensive unit of the Sooners was on full display as they accumulated a total of 430 yards throughout the game. Their passing game was particularly effective; quarterback play resulted in a completion percentage of approximately 78 percent for a total of 314 yards through air and one touchdown pass that covered six yards. On top of that, their rushing attack added another three touchdowns on ground.

Defensively, Oklahoma applied pressure consistently throughout the game resulting in four sacks and six quarterback hits while forcing four fumbles and recovering three. Penalties were kept under control by both sides with seven penalties costing them fifty yards during playtime.
