Oklahoma Sooners Surge Past Tulane Green Wave with Ground and Air Assault

The Oklahoma Sooners improved their season record to 3-0 after a commanding 34-19 victory over the Tulane Green Wave, who now sit at a 1-2 record. The game, held at Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman, saw the home team utilize both their rushing and passing game effectively to secure the win.

A Closer Look at the Sooners' Performance


The Sooners' offense was on full display, amassing a total of 349 yards. Quarterback Jackson Arnold led the aerial attack with 169 passing yards, completing 62 percent of his attempts including one touchdown pass. However, Arnold also contributed significantly on the ground, rushing for 97 yards on 14 attempts and scoring two touchdowns himself. His longest run of the day was an impressive 47-yard dash through the Green Wave defense.


Running back Taylor Tatum also had a notable performance with nine carries for 27 yards and one touchdown. His efforts were part of an overall effective running game that saw Oklahoma rush for a total of 182 yards from 45 attempts. Jovantae Barnes added another dimension to this multifaceted running attack by contributing with his own set of legs for an additional fifty-three yards over fourteen carries.


On special teams, kicker Tyler Keltner was perfect on the day, converting both field goal attempts with his longest being from thirty-nine yards out. This contributed six crucial points to Oklahoma's tally.


Defensive Standouts


The defensive unit for Oklahoma showed up big against Tulane's offense as well. R Mason Thomas stood out particularly with three sacks and one forced fumble which he recovered himself adding eight return yards to his stat line - showcasing not just defensive prowess but also agility and quick thinking on field recovery situations.


Danny Stutsman led in tackles combining twelve (six solo) showing off his ability to read plays effectively and halt Tulane's offensive drives consistently throughout the game.


Billy Bowman Jr.'s interception added another layer to an already impressive defensive showing by returning it two yards further into enemy territory setting up favorable field position which is always crucial in tight matchups like these.

The Oklahoma Sooners will next face off against Tennessee Volunteers at Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman on September twenty-first at seven-thirty PM EDT.
