Beavers and Fighting Irish Set for Sun Bowl Showdown
As the Oregon State Beavers prepare to face the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at Sun Bowl Stadium, fans are cautiously optimistic despite the team's recent performance. The Beavers' last outing on November 25 against the Oregon Ducks ended in a disappointing 7-31 loss. The statistics from that game paint a picture of an offense struggling to find its rhythm, managing only 273 total yards and converting just over a quarter of their third-down attempts.
However, it would be unwise to count out the Beavers based on one game alone. Earlier in November, they showcased their potential by putting up an impressive fight against the Washington Huskies, narrowly losing with a score of 20-22. That game saw them dominate time of possession and make crucial defensive plays including forcing a fumble which they recovered.
The most telling performance came on November 11 when ORS decimated Stanford Cardinal with a staggering scoreline of 62-17. This victory was built on both offensive firepower – accumulating nearly 600 total yards – and defensive prowess as evidenced by six sacks and four interceptions.
Against Notre Dame, ORS will need to channel that same level of execution. The key for victory lies in their ability to control both lines of scrimmage as they did against Stanford while minimizing turnovers which plagued them versus Washington.
Notre Dame will undoubtedly pose challenges; however, if ORS can replicate their high-scoring offense while tightening up defensively as shown in previous games this season, there is every reason for Beaver fans to believe in an upset at El Paso.
Looking ahead to December 29 at Sun Bowl Stadium with kickoff scheduled for 2:00 PM local time (7:00 PM GMT), Beaver supporters should mark their calendars for what promises to be an enthralling encounter broadcasted live on CBS.
