In an outdoor clash on turf at Yankee Stadium, the Pittsburgh Panthers faced a challenging opponent in the Syracuse Orange. Despite a valiant effort, the Panthers could not overcome their adversaries. The Panthers' offense managed to accumulate a total of 269 yards throughout the game, with their passing game contributing significantly by amassing 209 yards. The quarterback's performance was notable, completing 16 out of 28 passes which included one touchdown pass that covered ten yards.

The ground attack for Pittsburgh struggled against a stout Syracuse defense, gaining only 60 yards on 21 attempts. This lackluster rushing performance averaged just under three yards per carry and failed to produce any touchdowns. However, it did contribute five first downs to keep drives alive.

Special teams were active for Pittsburgh as well; they successfully converted two field goals with the longest being from thirty-five yards out. Their punting unit had five attempts totaling two hundred eighteen yards and managed to place one punt inside the twenty-yard line while also having one touchback.

On defense, despite forcing three fumbles and recovering one for no return yardage, they were unable to sack or significantly pressure Syracuse’s quarterback throughout four quarters of play. Additionally, they did not manage any interceptions or defend any passes during this contest.

Syracuse's offense took advantage of opportunities presented by turnovers and penalties committed by Pittsburgh. They scored fourteen points in both third and fourth quarters while holding Pittsburgh scoreless during these periods.
