The game, held at Rice Stadium in Houston, Texas, saw the home team take control early on. The Owls' offense was particularly effective on the ground as they amassed an impressive total of 275 rushing yards over 45 attempts. This included a standout rush that resulted in an electrifying 80-yard touchdown run, which was also recorded as their longest touchdown of the game. The rushing unit contributed four touchdowns overall and secured ten first downs for their team.

The passing game for the Rice Owls may not have been prolific but it was efficient when it mattered most. With six completions from fourteen attempts totaling 96 yards through the air and a passer rating hovering around 100, they managed to maintain balance on offense. Their longest pass completion stretched for an impressive 60 yards.

Defensively, the Owls were just as dominant. They intercepted two passes from their opponents and recovered one fumble while allowing zero turnovers themselves; this defensive solidity limited Old Dominion's scoring opportunities significantly throughout all four quarters.

Special teams also played their part well with five kickoffs resulting in touchbacks out of five attempts and punting that consistently pinned back Old Dominion with six punts landing inside their opponent's twenty-yard line.

As for penalties, discipline was maintained by both teams with only three infractions called against each side throughout the entire game - none having significant impact on its outcome.

The attendance at Rice Stadium reflected strong support for both teams despite cooler November weather conditions; exactly 18,083 fans witnessed this gridiron battle unfold under artificial lights on an outdoor surface designed to mimic natural grass playability without succumbing to weather-related wear and tear.

Looking ahead after this convincing win over Old Dominion University's Monarchs football team – fans can tune into future broadcasts featuring more exciting action from college football's regular season as it continues to unfold across America’s stadiums including those hosting upcoming games involving these two competitive programs.
