In an intense college football game at M.M. Roberts Stadium, the Rice Owls were unable to secure victory against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles. Despite their efforts, the Owls fell short with a final score that reflected their struggle throughout the game.

The Owls' offense managed to accumulate a total of 262 yards during the game. Their passing attack contributed 125 yards to this tally, with two touchdowns recorded through aerial efforts; one touchdown was completed for five yards while another was notched from further out on the field. The ground game added another dimension to their offense as they rushed for 137 yards and scored one touchdown from an impressive long-distance run that spanned 62 yards.

Special teams played a pivotal role in field positioning as well; six punts were executed by the Owls for an average of approximately 43 yards per punt and two placed within the opponent's twenty-yard line. On kick returns, they managed to cover 115 yards over four attempts which included a notable return stretching out to nearly forty yards.

Defensively, Rice showed moments of resilience by securing one interception that was returned for nineteen yards and recording one sack resulting in eleven lost yardage for Southern Miss. However, these efforts were overshadowed by conceding forty points throughout four quarters.
