At SHI Stadium, the home crowd witnessed the Rutgers Scarlet Knights put up a valiant effort against their opponents. The game opened with promise as the Scarlet Knights took an early lead with seven points in the first quarter while holding the Hoosiers to just three. However, momentum shifted as Indiana racked up seventeen points in the second quarter without any response from Rutgers.

The third quarter saw both teams scoring, but again it was Indiana who outpaced their hosts by adding ten points to their tally compared to eight from Rutgers. In a similar vein, the fourth quarter concluded with both teams adding to their scores; however, it was not enough for Rutgers as they trailed behind with six points against Indiana's seven.

Despite some solid offensive plays from Rutgers that resulted in two passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown spanning 23 and 37 yards respectively, turnovers proved costly for them. Three interceptions thrown by Rutgers' quarterbacks hindered potential scoring drives and contributed significantly to their defeat.

Rutgers' rushing game showed resilience throughout as they amassed 121 yards across thirty-three attempts which included an impressive longest run of thirty-seven yards resulting in a touchdown. Their passing game also had moments of efficiency despite setbacks; twenty-two completions out of thirty-five attempts culminated into two touchdowns and netted them eight first downs.

Special teams had mixed results for Rutgers; while punters managed an average yardage of forty-two on five attempts including one inside twenty-yard line kickoffs did not yield touchbacks but did result in thirty return yards on three occasions.

On defense, there were bright spots including seven tackles for loss and one sack totaling four lost yards for Indiana's offense. However, penalties slightly marred this performance with nine infractions costing sixty-six yards overall though only contributing two first downs for Indiana.
