SMU Mustangs Prepare for Gridiron Battle Against Tulsa Golden Hurricane at Skelly Field

As the Southern Methodist University Mustangs prepare to face off against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane at Skelly Field at H.A. Chapman Stadium, fans are eager for insights into how their team might fare in this upcoming football game. The Mustangs have shown a mixed bag of performances recently, but there's reason to believe they could gallop to victory against Tulsa.

In their last game on October 22, 2022, the Mustangs narrowly lost to the Cincinnati Bearcats with a score of 27-29. Despite the loss, there were positive takeaways for SMU. Their passing game was decent with a completion percentage of over 50 percent and two touchdowns through the air. However, they allowed six sacks and managed only an average of 3.9 yards per pass attempt – numbers that need improvement if they want to outmaneuver Tulsa's defense.

The rushing attack wasn't particularly strong either; averaging just under three yards per carry isn't going to cut it against any opponent. On defense, though, SMU recorded two sacks and four tackles for loss while keeping penalties low – only three for 30 yards.

A week earlier on October 14 against Navy Midshipmen, SMU showed more promise with a win scoring 40 points and allowing just 34 points from Navy. Their quarterback had an impressive rating of over 200 and completed nearly three-quarters of his passes for three touchdowns without throwing an interception – demonstrating what this offense is capable of when clicking on all cylinders.

However, it's not all sunshine; in another previous matchup on October 5 versus UCF Knights where they scored only 19 points compared to UCF's dominant performance leading them to score 41 points indicates some inconsistency within the team’s play that needs addressing before facing Tulsa.

Looking ahead at their next opponent – The Golden Hurricane has been known for its strong defensive plays which could pose challenges for SMU’s offense if not well-prepared. But given that SMU has shown flashes of brilliance especially in passing efficiency as seen against Navy Midshipmen suggests potential exploitation areas against TSA’s defense.

The key will be whether or not SMU can maintain consistency throughout all four quarters while minimizing turnovers which have plagued them previously as seen with two turnovers during their match-up with UCF Knights including one lost fumble which can be costly in close games like these.

Fans should mark their calendars for October 29th when these teams clash under the lights at Skelly Field starting at around half-past seven local time (7:30 PM). With ESPN+ broadcasting this anticipated encounter live from Tulsa Oklahoma fans won’t miss any action whether cheering from home or stands!
