Green Wave Surges Past SMU Mustangs at Yulman Stadium in College Football Showdown
In a contest that saw the Southern Methodist University Mustangs fall to the Tulane Green Wave, the final tally stood at 24-59. The Mustangs' season record now reads 7-6, while the Green Wave boasts an impressive 12-2.
The game at Yulman Stadium was marked by a dominant performance from the home team, who managed to put up 21 points in the first quarter alone. The SMU Mustangs struggled to find their footing early on but managed to score seven points in both the second and third quarters. Despite their efforts, including ten more points in the fourth quarter, they were unable to close the gap created by Tulane's consistent scoring across all quarters.
The Mustangs' offense amassed a total of 470 yards with a balanced attack that included 329 passing yards and 141 rushing yards. Quarterback play was notable with a completion percentage of approximately 67 percent from an ambitious 52 attempts which translated into two passing touchdowns. However, interceptions proved costly for SMU as two passes were picked off by Tulane's defense.
On special teams, SMU's punting unit performed efficiently with three punts averaging nearly 45 net yards each and successfully pinning all inside Tulane's twenty-yard line. In terms of kicking, one field goal was made out of two attempts from within thirty-nine yards.
Penalties appeared controlled as only five infractions were called against them for fifty total penalty yards. This discipline allowed them to maintain possession for just under thirty-four minutes of game time but ultimately did not translate into enough scoring opportunities.
SMU fans can look forward to their next game where they will face off against Memphis Tigers at Gerald J. Ford Stadium in Dallas on November twenty-sixth at eight-thirty PM local time (20:30). The upcoming game will be broadcasted on ESPN2 for those looking to follow along live.
