SMU Mustangs Dominate Pittsburgh Panthers, Highlighting Season's Best Performance

The Southern Methodist University Mustangs delivered an outstanding performance against the Pittsburgh Panthers, securing a 48-25 victory at Gerald J. Ford Stadium. This win improves the Mustangs' record to 8-1, showcasing their dominance in the season. The Panthers, on the other hand, faced a setback with their record now standing at 7-1.

The Mustangs' offense was on fire, amassing a total of 467 yards with a balanced attack through both air and ground. Quarterback Kevin Jennings stood out with his precision passing, completing 17 out of 25 attempts for a whopping 306 yards and two touchdowns. His longest pass was an impressive 80-yard touchdown that electrified the home crowd.


On the rushing front, Brashard Smith was unstoppable as he dashed through the Panthers' defense for 161 yards on just 23 carries, scoring two touchdowns in the process. His longest run of the night was a breathtaking 71-yard touchdown that showcased his speed and agility.

The SMU defense also made significant contributions to this victory by applying constant pressure on Pittsburgh's offense. They recorded three sacks and forced two fumbles while limiting Pittsburgh to only eight successful third-down conversions out of fourteen attempts. Jahfari Harvey and Isaiah Smith each contributed with crucial sacks that disrupted Pittsburgh's rhythm.


Special Teams Excellence


Special teams played a pivotal role in SMU's comprehensive win as well. Collin Rogers executed flawlessly by converting both field goal attempts including one from fifty yards out contributing six points to widen SMU’s lead further.
