Key Highlights from the Game

The Mustangs' defense was nothing short of spectacular, amassing five sacks and sixteen tackles for loss which played a crucial role in stifling the Golden Bears' offensive efforts. Notably, Kobe Wilson from SMU stood out with two sacks and two tackles for loss, contributing significantly to the defensive pressure applied throughout the game. Jonathan McGill also made his presence felt by securing an interception and defending a pass which halted potential scoring drives by California.

On offense, SMU's strategy was well-executed with Kevin Jennings throwing for 225 yards with a completion rate of 67 percent and achieving two touchdowns. Preston Stone also made notable contributions both through air and on ground; he not only completed all his four passing attempts including one for a touchdown but also led rushing efforts alongside Brashard Smith who rushed for 68 yards on sixteen attempts scoring once.

Special Teams Play A Pivotal Role

Special teams were instrumental in maintaining field position advantage for SMU as Isaac Pearson punted five times placing three inside the twenty-yard line ensuring that California had to contend with unfavorable starting positions multiple times during the game. Collin Rogers excelled in kickoff duties ensuring all seven of his kickoffs resulted in touchbacks thereby limiting return opportunities for California.

The Southern Methodist University Mustangs are now gearing up to face Clemson Tigers at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte on December 7th at 8:00 PM EDT. Fans can catch this upcoming game live on ABC where they will witness if SMU can carry forward their momentum into this high-stakes matchup.
