Did SMU Mustangs' Defense Dominate East Texas A&M Lions at Gerald J. Ford Stadium?

First Quarter


The Southern Methodist University Mustangs kicked off their season with a commanding performance against the East Texas A&M Lions at Gerald J. Ford Stadium. The Mustangs, now standing at 1-0, showcased a strong start by scoring 14 points in the first quarter while keeping the Lions scoreless. Kevin Jennings led the charge with precise passing, completing 73 percent of his throws and connecting for two touchdowns throughout the game.

Second Quarter


In the second quarter, both teams tightened their defenses. The Ponies managed to add another touchdown to their tally, bringing their total to 21 points by halftime. Meanwhile, the Lions struggled offensively and only managed a field goal before heading into halftime trailing significantly.


Third Quarter


The third quarter saw continued dominance from SMU's defense as they held East Texas A&M scoreless once again. Defensive end Cameron Robertson made his presence felt with a crucial sack that pushed back the Lions' offense significantly. Additionally, linebacker Alexander Kilgore's interception further stifled any momentum for East Texas A&M.


Fourth Quarter


Despite a late surge from East Texas A&M in the fourth quarter where they scored 10 points, it was too little too late as SMU added another two touchdowns to secure an emphatic victory with a final score of 42-13 in favor of SMU Mustangs vs East Texas A&M Lions final score.


Throughout this encounter, what went wrong for SMU Mustangs was minimal compared to their overall execution on both sides of the ball; however, two lost fumbles were areas noted during post-game thoughts SMU Mustangs would aim to improve upon moving forward.
