Stanford Cardinal's Effort Falls Short Against USC Trojans at United Airlines Field

In a competitive Week 2 matchup, the Stanford Cardinal now stand at 0-2 after a hard-fought game against the USC Trojans, who improved their record to 2-0. The final score read 24-42 in favor of the home team at United Airlines Field at LA Memorial Coliseum.

The Cardinal showcased a dynamic offensive performance with a total of 330 yards gained. The rushing attack was particularly effective, amassing 170 yards on the ground over 26 attempts, averaging an impressive seven yards per carry. This effort was highlighted by an electrifying longest run that covered three-quarters of the field for a touchdown.

Special teams also played their part; punting averaged fifty-one yards across four attempts with three landing inside the twenty-yard line. In addition to punting prowess, field goal kicking remained perfect on the day with one made field goal from thirty-six yards out.


Defensively, Stanford managed to intercept two passes while also recording one sack during the contest. These interceptions contributed thirty-two return yards to their overall defensive effort.


Despite these individual highlights and maintaining possession for over twenty-five minutes, penalties proved costly for Stanford as they conceded seven infractions totaling thirty-five penalty yards which hindered momentum at crucial junctures throughout the game.
