Tulsa Golden Hurricane's Late Surge Falls Short Against East Carolina Pirates

In a closely contested battle at Skelly Field at H.A. Chapman Stadium, the Tulsa Golden Hurricane fell to the East Carolina Pirates with a final score of 31-38. This outcome leaves the home team with a 3-7 record for the season, while the Pirates improved to 6-4.

Golden Hurricane's Offensive Highlights


The Tulsa offense showed moments of brilliance, particularly through their aerial attack led by quarterback Cooper Legas. Legas completed 20 out of his 32 attempts, throwing for an impressive total of 293 yards and three touchdowns. His performance was highlighted by a long touchdown pass of 50 yards, showcasing his ability to strike deep. Wide receiver Joseph Williams emerged as Legas' top target, hauling in five receptions for an outstanding total of 158 yards and all three receiving touchdowns.


On the ground, Tulsa struggled to find consistent success but managed to accumulate over a hundred rushing yards across various carriers. The team's leading rusher was Cooper Legas himself, who scrambled for 43 yards on thirteen attempts.


Defensive Efforts and Special Teams


Defensively, Tulsa managed to make significant plays despite the loss. The defense intercepted East Carolina thrice during the game with Keuan Parker returning one interception for thirty yards and scoring a touchdown in an electrifying play that showcased their defensive capabilities. Elijah Green also contributed with an interception alongside Buddha Garrett who added another pick along with recovering a fumble forced by Devin Robinson.


Special teams had mixed results; punter Angus Davies averaged over forty-four net yards across five punts while kicker Seth Morgan converted one out of two field goal attempts from forty-seven yards but missed another attempt from beyond forty-nine yards.
