UNLV Rebels Edge Out Vanderbilt Commodores in High-Scoring Football Showdown at Allegiant Stadium

The UNLV Rebels secured a narrow victory over the Vanderbilt Commodores with a final score of 40-37. The Rebels improved their season record to 2-1, while the Commodores moved to an even 2-2.

In an action-packed game at Allegiant Stadium, the UNLV Rebels demonstrated offensive versatility and defensive resilience against the Vanderbilt Commodores. Despite trailing by ten points after the first quarter, the Rebels rallied back with an impressive twenty-point surge in the second quarter, taking a lead they would fight to maintain for the rest of the game.


The home team's passing attack was pivotal, amassing 276 yards through air including a notable 48-yard touchdown completion. The quarterback's performance was marked by efficiency with a passer rating of approximately 118 and completing over half of his pass attempts. However, it wasn't without its challenges as two interceptions were thrown; one returned for a touchdown by Vanderbilt.


On ground, UNLV's rushing efforts contributed significantly with two touchdowns and eight first downs from forty attempts totaling 127 yards. The longest rush broke free for twenty-four yards into end zone. This balanced attack kept their opponents on their heels throughout four quarters.


Special teams also played a crucial role in this tightly contested game. Field goal kickers showcased precision by successfully converting four out of five attempts with their longest being thirty-six yards contributing twelve points to overall scoreline.


Defensively, UNLV applied pressure resulting in three sacks and three forced fumbles which led to three recoveries by Rebel defense; one recovery was returned for touchdown adding six points directly from defensive effort. Moreover, they managed to intercept one pass that was returned thirty-six yards setting up advantageous field position.


Penalties could have been detrimental as ten flags were thrown against them costing sixty-four penalty yards but did not deter them from achieving victory.
