Utah State Aggies Outmaneuver San Diego State Aztecs in a Dominant Home Victory

The Utah State Aggies improved their season record to 4-7 following a commanding 41-20 victory over the San Diego State Aztecs, who now sit at 3-8. In front of a crowd of 12,583 at Merlin Olsen Field at Maverik Stadium, the Aggies showcased an impressive performance on both sides of the ball.

Game Highlights


The game unfolded with the Aztecs taking an early lead in the first quarter, but it was all Utah State from there. The Aggies' offense came alive in the second quarter, putting up 14 points and taking control of the game. Their momentum continued after halftime, adding another seven points in the third quarter and sealing their dominance with a twenty-point final quarter.


Bryson Barnes led the charge for Utah State's offense with an exceptional passing performance that included three touchdowns and a completion rate of nearly 87 percent for 139 yards. His connection with receivers was pivotal; Grant Page stood out by securing two touchdown receptions among his six catches for 55 yards.


On the ground, Bryson Barnes also excelled with an impressive average of nearly 13 yards per carry, contributing significantly to Utah State's total rushing yardage of 322. Herschel Turner added to this tally with one rushing touchdown and Rahsul Faison provided valuable support by averaging over five yards per carry.


Defensive Standouts


Utah State's defense was equally formidable, recording four sacks and eight tackles for loss against San Diego State's offense. Marlin Dean led this effort with one and a half sacks and two quarterback hits. The defensive unit as a whole demonstrated their ability to disrupt plays behind Cole Joyce’s six combined tackles including one sack.


Special teams also played their part well; Stephen Kotsanlee punted effectively throughout the game ensuring strategic field positioning which included pinning two punts inside San Diego’s twenty-yard line.
