Did Vanderbilt Commodores' Defense Dominate South Carolina Gamecocks at Williams-Brice Stadium?

The Vanderbilt Commodores continued their impressive start to the season with a commanding performance against the South Carolina Gamecocks, securing a 31-7 victory. This win improves the Commodores' record to 3-0, while the Gamecocks fall to 2-1.

First Quarter


The game began with both teams finding their rhythm, as each scored a touchdown in the opening quarter. The Dores' defense set an early tone with Carson Lawrence forcing a fumble that was recovered by Jordan Matthews. This defensive play was crucial in keeping the Cocks from gaining any momentum.


Second Quarter


In the second quarter, Vanderbilt's offense took control. Diego Pavia connected on several key passes, including an 18-yard touchdown pass to Sedrick Alexander. The Commodores' defense remained stout, preventing any scoring opportunities for South Carolina and maintaining their lead into halftime.


Third Quarter


As play resumed in the third quarter, Vandy's defense continued its dominance. Bryce Cowan recorded a sack that pushed back South Carolina's offensive efforts significantly. Meanwhile, Pavia orchestrated another successful drive culminating in Junior Sherrill’s short touchdown reception.


Fourth Quarter


In the final quarter of play, Brock Taylor added three points with a field goal from 51 yards out. The Dores’ defensive unit sealed their victory by intercepting two passes—one by Zaylin Wood and another by Bryan Longwell—effectively shutting down any comeback attempts from South Carolina.


The standout performances included Nick Rinaldi’s seven tackles and one sack alongside CJ Heard’s team-leading twelve tackles which were pivotal for Vandy's defensive success throughout this matchup.
