Virginia Tech Hokies Edge Out Liberty Flames in Nail-Biting Football Game at Williams Stadium

In a closely contested game, the Virginia Tech Hokies with a 3-8 record narrowly defeated the Liberty Flames, who held an 8-5 record, by a score of 23-22.

The Virginia Tech Hokies showcased their defensive capabilities at Williams Stadium by recording five sacks and forcing two fumbles against the Liberty Flames. The Hokies' defense was relentless throughout the game, contributing significantly to their victory by holding back the Flames' offense. The defensive unit for Virginia Tech also managed to halt ten plays for losses totaling 33 yards and delivered five quarterback hits.


On offense, the Hokies demonstrated a balanced attack with an emphasis on their rushing game which accounted for three touchdowns and amassed 176 yards over 59 attempts. Their longest rush was a modest but effective 22-yard gain. In addition to their ground efforts, they achieved an impressive red zone efficiency rate of 80 percent from five attempts.

Virginia Tech's special teams played without error as well; they successfully converted one field goal attempt from within the range of 29 yards and completed all extra point kicks attempted during the game. Furthermore, kick returners were able to contribute valuable yardage with returns totaling up to 77 yards.


The home team's performance was commendable as well; despite falling short by one point in this encounter. The Liberty Flames put forth a strong effort throughout each quarter matching Virginia Tech score-for-score until the final period where they were unable to add points to their tally.
