In front of a full house at Lane Stadium, the home team struggled to find their rhythm against a determined Mountaineer squad. The Hokies' offense managed to accumulate only 228 total yards throughout the game. Despite their efforts, they were able to cross into the end zone just once and successfully completed one field goal from 44 yards. The passing game saw them gain 193 yards with an average of roughly five yards per attempt and a completion percentage nearing 46 percent. Their longest pass was for 28 yards which also resulted in their sole touchdown.

The running game did not fare much better for the Hokies as they were limited to just 35 rushing yards on eighteen attempts, averaging under two yards per carry. Their longest run stretched for only fifteen yards and they achieved merely one first down via rush.

Penalties proved costly for Virginia Tech as they racked up fifteen penalties amounting to an imposing total of 132 penalty yards which significantly hindered their progress on both sides of the ball.

On special teams, punters had an active day with five punts totaling over two hundred net yards; however, no punts were blocked nor returned for touchdowns by either team. In terms of kickoffs, three kicks traveled for a combined distance of one hundred eighty-yards resulting in two touchbacks.

Defensively speaking, while there was some resistance shown by forcing one fumble and recovering it too – alongside recording one sack – it wasn't enough to stifle West Virginia's offensive efforts consistently throughout all four quarters.

Looking ahead after this tough encounter at home soil in Blacksburg; fans can mark their calendars as the next challenge awaits when Virginia Tech travels to face North Carolina Tar Heels at Kenan Stadium on October first at seven-thirty PM Eastern Time. This upcoming contest will be broadcasted live on ACC Network where supporters can tune in and follow along as their team looks forward towards bouncing back from this defeat.
