First Quarter

The game kicked off with the Hilltoppers taking an early lead thanks to a successful field goal by John Cannon from 36 yards out. This gave Western Kentucky a slight edge as they managed to keep LSU scoreless throughout the first quarter. Cole Maynard's punting was instrumental, averaging over 50 yards per punt and keeping LSU pinned back.

Second Quarter

In the second quarter, however, momentum shifted towards LSU as they scored their first touchdown of the game. The Bayou Bengals capitalized on a fumble recovery by Dylan Flowers that led them downfield for seven points. Despite efforts from Jaylen Wester and his team-leading tackles, Western Kentucky couldn't prevent this shift.

Third Quarter

The third quarter saw both defenses tighten up further with only three points added by LSU via a field goal. Dominic Oliver stood out defensively for WKU with one sack and one tackle for loss, but offensive struggles persisted for Tops quarterback Rodney Tisdale Jr., who completed just over half of his passes amidst constant pressure resulting in five sacks.

Fourth Quarter

Western Kentucky mounted a comeback attempt in the fourth quarter when Marvis Parrish broke through with significant rushing gains leading to their only touchdown of the day. However, it wasn't enough as another field goal from LSU sealed their victory late into this period despite Harper Holloman's interception which briefly reignited hope among WKU fans.
