BYU Cougars Dominate at Marriott Center Against Denver Pioneers

In a display of offensive efficiency, the Brigham Young University Cougars outscored the Denver Pioneers 90-74 at the Marriott Center. The Cougars' season record now stands impressively at 18-0, while the Pioneers fall to a less fortunate 0-1. The home team's victory was marked by a consistent performance throughout both halves, with an equal distribution of 45 points in each.

The BYU Cougars showcased their scoring capabilities with an impressive field goal percentage of 50 and were particularly effective from two-point range, hitting an outstanding 71 percent of their attempts. Their free throw accuracy was also notable, as they converted nearly 91 percent from the line. The team's offensive efforts were complemented by their dominance on the boards; they out-rebounded the Pioneers with a total of 43 rebounds to Denver's 34.


Defensively, BYU made its presence felt by accumulating seven blocks and six steals over the course of the game. This defensive pressure contributed to ten points off turnovers for BYU compared to eight for Denver. Additionally, fast break opportunities were capitalized on by BYU who scored fifteen fast break points.


The Pioneers fought valiantly despite being overmatched. They managed to score forty-four points in paint and attempted more three-point shots than two-point shots but struggled from beyond the arc with only a twenty-two percent success rate. Their overall field goal percentage stood at around forty-three percent.


Denver did manage to secure eight steals and provided fourteen assists but had difficulty containing BYU's offense which boasted twenty-two assists—an assist-to-turnover ratio that exceeded that of Denver’s.
