The game was marked by intense competition from start to finish. The Cougars opened with determination, ending the first half with 38 points but still trailing behind the Wildcats' 42. In an attempt to close this gap in the second half, BYU managed to add another 36 points to their tally; however, Kansas State matched this intensity by also scoring 42 points in the latter half.

Their shooting from two-point range was notable as well, converting at a rate of 58 percent which accounted for over half of their total field goals made. From beyond the arc though, they struggled significantly with only six three-pointers made out of thirty-one attempts resulting in a lowly three-point percentage of just 19 percent.
