Golden Bears Fall to Trojans at Haas Pavilion in Conference Showdown
In a conference game at Haas Pavilion, the California Golden Bears faced off against the Trojans. The Golden Bears' record now stands at 0-1 after a hard-fought battle that ended with a score of 66-51 in favor of the visiting team.
The Golden Bears started strong, scoring 22 points in the first half but were outpaced by the Trojans who put up 27 points. In the second half, despite adding another 29 points to their tally, it was not enough to close the gap as the Trojans extended their lead with an additional 39 points. The home team's shooting percentage was notably low; they made only 18 out of 65 field goal attempts, resulting in a field goal percentage of just under 28 percent.
On defense, the Golden Bears managed to block two shots and steal from their opponents six times. However, this defensive effort was overshadowed by that of the Trojans who tallied eight blocks and three steals throughout the game. Rebounding was nearly even between both teams with California pulling down a total of 39 rebounds compared to USC's total rebound count of 40.
Offensively for California, they struggled from beyond the arc hitting only three out of twelve three-point attempts which translates into a mere shooting success rate from downtown at about 25 percent. Their free throw performance showed more promise as they made twelve out of seventeen attempts giving them roughly a free throw percentage around seventy-one percent.
The Trojans demonstrated stronger offensive execution with fifty percent success on two-pointers and almost ninety-four percent accuracy from free-throw line making fifteen out of sixteen attempted shots. They also managed to convert five out of sixteen three-pointers which contributed significantly to their victory margin.
California's next challenge will be an away game against Arizona Wildcats at McKale Center in Tuscon on December fourth at five PM Pacific Time. Fans can tune into Pac-12 Network for live coverage as California looks forward to bouncing back after this setback.
