Key Moments and Player Highlights

The game was a tale of two halves for the California Golden Bears. After trailing at halftime with only 23 points to Syracuse's 40, they rallied back in the second half to put up an impressive 43 points. However, this surge was not enough to overcome the early deficit.

Jovan Blacksher and Jeremiah Wilkinson emerged as standout performers for the Golden Bears. Blacksher led his team with 20 points, demonstrating remarkable efficiency from both the field (43 percent) and from beyond the arc (33 percent), while also contributing four rebounds and three steals. Wilkinson matched Blacksher's scoring output with another 20 points, adding two rebounds and one steal to his tally.

Rytis Petraitis also made significant contributions with 13 points and eight rebounds, showcasing his ability under pressure by shooting an impressive 67 percent on two-point attempts.

Syracuse Orange's Strategy Pays Off

On the opposing side, Syracuse Orange executed their game plan effectively throughout both halves. Their balanced attack saw them maintaining a lead throughout the game, thanks in part to their solid shooting performance (46 percent from field goals) and dominance on rebounds (42 total). The Orange capitalized on turnovers scoring ten points off turnovers compared to eighteen by California but managed a more efficient overall play leading them to victory.

Looking Ahead

The California Golden Bears will look forward to their next challenge as they host North Carolina State Wolfpack at Haas Pavilion in Berkeley on February 5th at 11:00 PM EDT.
